Brightness Indicator Water

Brightness is a physical parameter that is closely related to the process of photosynthesis in an aquatic ecosystem. Brightness describes a number or a portion of the light that is transmitted at a certain depth represented by percent. This light is the light of several wavelengths in the visible spektrumcahayayang danjatuh tegakluruspada surface layer of water at certain depths.

Demonstrated high brightness sunlight penetrating power deep into the waters. Vice versa. Brightness is a portion of the light transmitted into the water as a% of multiple wavelengths in the visible spectrum of light through a layer 1 meter away rather straight on the surface of the water. If the brightness is not good, it means the water is turbid. Turbidity (turbidity) of water affects the fish.

Turbidity occurs because plankton, humus and mud suspension, or it could be caused by the suspension of iron hydroxide. Turbidity can inhibit the growth of farmed fish, either directly or indirectly. Brightness sea water is determined by the turbidity of seawater itself from the content of the sediment carried by the river flow. In the murky sea, solar radiation necessary for photosynthesis process of plants will be less than the clear sea water.

Measurement of water transparency should be done during the day and relatively sunny weather. In the waters of the water transparency is closely connected and inversely proportional to the abundance of plankton, especially the type of phytoplankton that are in these waters, or in other words the higher the brightness level of the water, the abundance of phytoplankton will be lower and conversely the lower the brightness level of the water, the abundance of phytoplankton in these waters the higher it is.

Figure 9. Water with a high brightness level

Phytoplankton is a microscopic-sized plant species that have a green substance (chlorophyll) and always perform photosynthesis with the help of sunlight. Plankton productivity will increase with the increasing intensity of the absorption of sunlight into the waters, so that the abundance of plankton will further increase as well and will reduce the rate of penetration of sunlight into the waters.

Based on these descriptions, the brightness of the water is a variable of plankton abundance and the level of intensity of the sun. Penetration of light on a body of water is influenced by:
a) The intensity of the light falling on the surface of the water,
b) The solubility of ingredients / substances in the water, and
c) suspension of the material in the water.

Andquality intensity of light entering into the water (water) may specify:
a) Activities of photosynthesis for plant bodies, which ultimately determines the animal life in the water. The photosynthesis process is as follows: 6CO2 + 6H2O C6H12O6 + 6O2 
b) Climate (state) of light at a certain depth in a body of water. This absorbed light generates heat that is critical to the process of animal and plant life
