Untuk bahan pengujian sebaiknya disediakan beberapa macam tanah liat yang diambil dari beberapa lokasi, keuntungannya adalah beberapa macam campuran (formula tanah) liat dapat dibuat. Dari hasil uji akan didapat beberapa formula terbaik untuk dipakai sebagai bahan utama produksi.<\/p>\n<p>Hal yang penting untuk diketahui bahwa tidak semua tanah liat mempunyai sifat fisik maupun kimia yang sempurna. Sistem pencampuran bahan tanah liat untuk pengujian dapat dilakukan dengan pencampuran sistim garis (line blend) dengan dua macam bahan tanah liat alam dan pencampuran sistem segitiga (triaxial blend) yang menggunakan tiga macam tanah liat yang berbeda sumbernya.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pencampuran Sistim Garis<\/strong><br \/>\nSebagai contoh, tanah liat A memiliki plastisitas yang baik sehingga mudah dibentuk, tetapi susut kering dan susut bakar terlalu besar sehingga banyak menimbulkan masalah, sebaliknya tanah liat B plastisitasnya sangat rendah tetapi susut kering dan susut bakar kecil sehingga tidak mudah dibentuk.<\/p>\n<p>Maka, untuk mendapatkan bahan tanah liat yang memenuhi persyaratan kedua jenis tanah liat tersebut digabungkan melalui pencampuran sistim garis (line blend) dengan membuat beberapa formula dan setelah melalui beberapa macam pengujian akan diperoleh beberapa formula campuran yang memenuhi syarat untuk pembuatan benda keramik.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pencampuran Sistim Segitiga<\/strong><br \/>\nPencampuran dengan sistem segitiga ( triaxial blend) seperti tabel di bawah menggunakan tiga jenis tanah liat A, B, dan C. tanah liat A<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/-omJk-6CeaMo\/U5oXOUquG_I\/AAAAAAAAGHQ\/UyuF0whzrPA\/s1600-h\/clip_image0013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"clip_image001\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/-0EOTVlnvc1Y\/U5oXPcSnmrI\/AAAAAAAAGHY\/IkdZQP8ffWE\/clip_image001_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800\" alt=\"clip_image001\" width=\"320\" height=\"199\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">tanah liat B\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 tanah liat C <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Gambar 7.2. Pencampuran tanah liat sistem segitiga. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\">Dari tabel di atas terdapat lima belas campuran, namun dari formula (campuran) tersebut hanya terdapat tiga formula yang menggunakan ketiga bahan tanah liat.<br \/>\nTiga campuran tersebut adalah<\/div>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">formula 5 (2A 1B 1C) yang terdiri dari 50% tanah liat A, 25% tanah liat B, dan 25% tanah liat C, <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">formula 8 (1A 2B 1C) yang terdiri dari 25% tanah liat A, 50% tanah liat B, dan 25% tanah liat C, <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">formula 9 (1A 1C 2C) yang terdiri dari 25% tanah liat A, 25% tanah liat B, dan 50% tanah liat C, <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\">Jika campuran tersebut dilanjutkan maka akan terdapat banyak sekali formula yang dapat diperoleh untuk bahan pengujian. Dengan menggunakan kedua metode tersebut siswa dapat membuat formula campuran selain antara tanah liat sekunder dengan tanah liat sekunder, bisa juga dibuat campuran antara tanah liat sekunder dengan tanah liat sekunder dengan tanah liat primer atau dengan mineral lain, misalnya A = tanah liat, B = feldspar dan C = kuarsa.<\/p>\n<p>Selain kedua sisitem pencampuran tersebut, formula tanah liat juga dapat dikembangkan dengan sistem campuran seprti tabel di bawah yang menggunakan lima macam bahan yang berbeda-beda.<\/p>\n<p>Proses pengujian tanah liat dapat dilakukan dengan beberapa jenis tanah liat seperti:<br \/>\na. Tanah liat sekunder yaitu tanah liat tunggal (single clay), yang merupakan tanah liat earthenware atau stoneware.<br \/>\nb. Campuran dari dua atau lebih tanah liat sekunder yaitu tanah liat earthenware atau stoneware.<br \/>\nc. Campuran tanah liat sekunder dengan tanah liat primer dari mineral terolah<br \/>\nd.
