Las oxy-acetylene adalah semua proses pengelasan yang menggunakan campuran oksigen dan bahan bakar gas acetylene untuk membuat api sebagai sumber panas untuk mencairkan benda kerja. Oksigen dan acetylene dicampur dalam suatu alat dengan komposisi tertentu sehingga api yang dihasilkan dapat mencapai suhu maksimum. Api tersebut berada pada moncong alat pembakar sehingga dapat diarahkan secara efektif ke arah bagian benda kerja yang akan disambung.<\/p>\n

Hanya sebagian kecil (bagian ujung) benda kerja yang mencair dan menyatu sehingga setelah membeku membentuk suatu sambungan yang kuat, dapat menyamai kekuatan benda tersebut. Pengelas dapat mengontrol dengan mudah panas yang masuk ke benda kerja, keenceran cairan logam, besar kawah yang terbentuk dan volume endapan lasan karena bahan tambah terpisah dengan sumber panas.<\/p>\n

Las oxy-acetylene juga sesuai untuk mengelas benda kerja tipis dan pekerjaan reparasi.<\/p><\/div>\n

Ditinjau dari segi biaya awal dan operasional, las oxy-acetylene sangat murah. Disamping itu, peralatan yang murah tersebut dapat juga dipakai untuk keperluan yang lain seperti brazing, soldering, pemanasan awal, pemanasan akhir proses pengelasan lain, dan memanasi pipa yang akan dibengkok serta keperluan lainnya.<\/p>\n

Volume peralatan yang relatif kecil dan portabel memungkinkan dibawa ke lapangan dan tidak tergantung keberadaan sumber energi yang lain.
