Aluminum is one of the important engineering materials Non-ferrous metals in general because Aluminum has properties that can qualify the nature of the various components of the product or equipment engineering. The highly specific nature of the aluminum is a low specific gravity of only 2.702 Kg/dm3, possess high resistance to the effects of atmospheric corrosion and other properties are very important and this is the nature of the aluminum thermal and electrical conductivity are characterized by a layer of shiny if polished and rapid propagation of heat on the aluminum.

Aluminum was found in 1827 by Wohler Federick a German chemist. Aluminum present in the earth’s surface in the form of chemical compounds called Bauxite is an aluminum ore with a composition consisting of ground alum, Aluminum Oxide, Iron Oxide and Silicate Acid.

Furthermore Bauxite is found in many countries in Europe such as Francis, Italian and Balkan countries as well as Russia, Hungary, Africa, America, Asia and Australia. Aluminum commercially obtained in a pure state up to 99.9% and the lowest 99% has a tensile strength of 60 N/mm2 and can be improved through the process of cold working up to 140 N/mm2, and will rise again depending on the length of the working process.

Atmospheric corrosion occurs in nature Aluminum which is caused by the compounding process aluminum with air resulting in the formation of thick film layer approximately 13 X 10-6 mm. That is adhesive on the surface to protect it from the influence of air so the next.

To obtain other properties of aluminum can be done with the process of mixing or alloying with elements of other metals, such as Copper (Copper), Manganese, Magnesium, Zincum, Nickel, Silicon, and others that meet the desired material properties.

1. Basics aluminum alloy

Aluminum alloys can be classified into two groups according to the nature of the process, namely:

a. Wrought aluminum alloys (wrought Aluminum Alloy)

b. Aluminium alloys Cast (Cast Aluminum Alloy).

2. Wrought aluminum alloys

Wrought aluminum alloys (wrought Aluminum Alloy) is processed through forging or extrusi processing, processing that produce semi-finished materials such as plate, pipe cables, round or triangular bars and others. Aluminum alloy is also classified according to the nature of the reaction heat treatment (see diagram Aluminum alloy).

3. Work hardening in Aluminum Alloys

Aluminum alloy is actually not very responsive to the reaction heat treatment, but the degree of the so-called “Temper” can be obtained through cold working span of control achieved after softening the end, however, its strength will not be obtained if the desired size has been achieved except by undersized .
