Pada mulanya uap panas yang keluar dari bumi tersebut hanya dimanfaatkan untuk tujuan theraphy.<\/p>\n<p>Baru pada awal abad ke-20, seiring dengan kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi serta dimakluminya keterbatasan sumber energi minyak maka, mulai dipikirkan pemanfaatan energi panas bumi untuk keperluan\u2013keperluan yang lebih komersil.<\/p>\n<p>Pada tahun 1913, pembangkit listrik tenaga panas bumi pertama, dengan kapasitas 250 KWH. Berhasil dioperasikan di Italia. Kemudian disusul dengan pembangkit lainnya yang sampai dengan tahun 1988 total kapasitas PLTP di dunia sudah mencapai lebih dari 20.000 MW. Penelitian potensi panas bumi di Indonesia sudah di mulai sejak tahun 1926 di Kamojang Jawa Barat oleh Belanda dan diteruskan oleh bangsa Indonesia setelah kemerdekaan.<\/p>\n<p>Dari penelitian yang dilakukan ternyata potensi panas bumi di Indonesia sangat memberi harapan, yaitu sekitar 16.000 MW. Namun demikian hingga 1992, baru sekitar 500 MW yang berhasil di usahakan sebagai energi listrik.<\/p>\n<p>Kendala-kendala teknis dan non teknis masih perlu diatasi untuk mempercepat terwujudnya PLTP-PLTP yang lain. Dalam rangka memberikan gambaran tentang PLTP, buku ini disusun dengan sangat ringkas namun demikian diharapkan cukup dapat memberikan penjelasan awal tentang dasar-dasar pusat listrik tenaga panas bumi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pendinginan Listrik Tenaga Gas<\/strong><br \/>\nPendinginan sudu-sudu turbin dan poros turbin dilakukan dengan udara dari kompresor. Untuk keperluan ini, ada lubang pendingin dalam sudu- sudu dan dalam poros turbin yang pembuatannya memerlukan teknologi canggih.
