a. Potensi Reservoir<\/strong>
\nYang dimaksud dengan resevoir adalah lapisan batuan permeable yang dapat menyimpan dan mengalirkan fluida. Kandungan panas dalam resevoir dihitung berdasarkan data-data Volume reservoir, temperatur, porositas, density, thermal capasity. Data-data tersebut diperoleh dari survey geology, hydrology, geochemical, geophysic dan pengeboran sumur-sumur explorasi.<\/p>\n

b. Fild Run Down<\/strong>
\nPengambilan uap (fluida) yang terlalu berlebihan akan mempengaruhi tekanan dan temperatur resevoir, sehingga turbin tidak dapat mencapai kapasitas maksimumnya. Oleh karena perhitungan kapasitas reservoir berdasarkan parameter-parameter yang tidak diukur secara langsung maka hasil perhitungan tidak dapat dijadikan pegangan mutlak. Untuk mengurangi resiko field run down biasanya PLPT dibangun secara bertahap sambil mengamati perubahan-perubahan pada resevoir.<\/p>\n

C. Exploitasi Panas Bumi<\/strong>
\nYang dimaksud dengan exploitasi panas bumi adalah:
\n\u2227 Usaha mencari\/menentukan daerah panas bumi
\n\u2227 Menentukan karakteristik dari daerah panas bumi (semithermal atau hyperthermal)
\n\u2227 Menentukan apakah daerah hyper thermal (bila di temukan, merupakan steam atau water dominated)
\n\u2227 Mempelajari lebih teliti, lokasi, luas, kedalaman dan temperatur daerah panas bumi.
\n\u2227 Mengetimasi potensi daya yang dapat diperoleh dari energi panas yang ada pada daerah panas bumi itu.<\/p>\n

Pelaksanaan kegiatan explorasi memerlukan kerja sama dari beberapa disiplin ilmu antara lain Geology, geochemistry, geophysics dan engineering. Dari data-data yang diperoleh tersebut diambil suatu keputusan pertimbangan sebagai berikut :
\na) Bagaimanakah kira-kira prospek panas bumi tersebut untuk explorasi selanjutnya.
\nb) Bila prospeknya baik , apakah pengeborannya secara teknik bisa dilakukan.
\nc) Bila dapat, berapa kira-kira kedalamannya
