Suatu interupsi pasokan daya akan merusak proses produksi, seperti halnya pada pengecoran baja, proses kimia, atau pemintalan. Demikian pula halnya untuk gedung-gedung tertentu yang sering digunakan peristiwa kenegaraan, sangat tidak dikehendaki terjadinya interupsi pasokan daya listrik.<\/p>\n<p>Untuk mendapatkan pasokan daya yang tinggi keandalannya, digunakan unit pembangkit khusus yang berupa:<br \/>\n<strong>1. Uninterrupted Power Supply Electronic.<\/strong><br \/>\nGambar III.53 menggambarkan rangkaian dari uninterrupted power supply electronic yang mengambil daya dari jaringan umum (PLN). Kemudian digunakan untuk mengisi baterai aki melalui penyearah. Dari baterai aki, daya dialirkan melalui inverter yang mengubah arus searah menjadi arus bolak-balik ke instalasi pemakai yang memerlukan keandalan tinggi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. No Break Diesel Generating Set.<\/strong><br \/>\nGambar III.54 menggambarkan rangkaian dari no break diesel generating set. Dalam keadaan pasokan daya dari PLN normal, generator yang memasok pemakai diputar oleh motor sinkron yang mengambil daya dari jaringan PLN.<\/p>\n<p>Kalau pasokan daya dari jaringan PLN hilang, maka kopling mekanis antara roda gila yang diputar motor sinkron dan mesin Diesel masuk sehingga mesin Diesel tersebut diputar oleh roda gila dan kemudian mesin diesel ini hidup, untuk selanjutnya memutar generator sinkron menggantikan fungsi motor sinkron pemutar generator sinkron.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Short Break Diesel Generating Set.<\/strong><br \/>\nGambar III.55 menggambarkan rangkaian dari short break diesel generating set. Apabila pasokan daya dari PLN hilang, maka dalam waktu tertentu, unit pembangkit diesel ini di-start secara otomatis oleh baterai aki. Setelah putaran (frekuensi) dan tegangannya mencapai nilai nominal, saklar S berpindah posisinya dari PLN ke unit pembangkit diesel sehingga pemakai mendapat pasokan dari unit pembangkit Diesel bersangkutan.<\/p>\n<p>Proses ini membutuhkan interupsi pasokan daya ke pemakai dalam waktu kurang dari satu menit (short break).
