Pompa pada garis besarnya dapat diklasifikasi sebagai berikut:
\n1. Positive Displacement Type : pompa yang bekerja pada pressure tertentu, flow yang dihasilkan bias konstan, internal leakage kecil, putaran naik, maka flownya pun naik. Contoh-contoh dari pompa ini antara lain plunger pump, Gear pump, Vane Pump, Trochoid pump.
\n2. Non Positive Pump Displacement Type : pompa yang bekerja selain seperti tipe pertama. Contohnya : centrifugal pump, propeller pump.<\/p>\n

Pada modul ini hanya dibahas tentang pompa displacement type, sedangkan untuk jenis yang lain dapat dipelajari dari referensi lain. Positive Displacement type, ciri-cirinya :
\n– pompa ini bekerja pada pressure\/tekanan tertentu
\n– flow yang dihasilkan bias konstan
\n– internal leakage (kebocoran) kecil
\n– apabila putaran anaik, flownya pun naik<\/p>\n

Ada dua tipe yang sering kita jumpai dan luas aplikasinya, yakni : (1). Internal Gear Pump dan (2) External Gear Pump.
\nInternal Gear Pump:<\/strong>
\nPompa ini sering juga disebut pompa trocoid (Trochoid Pump). Contoh penggunaannya Oil pump engine S6 D105, Pompa pelumas pada Hino, Hidraulik pada alat berat John Deere.<\/div>\n

Secara garis besarnya External Gear Pump dapat dibagi menjadi 2 (dua) tipe
\n1. Fixed Side Plate type Gear Pump
\nPompa jenis ini mempunyai tekanan antara 30 Kg\/cm2 sampai dengan 125 kg\/cm2. Tipe pompa ini ada juga yang menggunakan side plate yang berfungsi untuk mengurangi side clearence. Komatsu menyebut pompa jenis ini dengan tipe FAL\/R dan GAL\/R. Mempunyai volumetric efficiency : ? v = 75 – 85 %. Lihat gambar 33.<\/p>\n

2. Pressure Balancing Type Gear Pump (Movable Side Plate Type Pompa)
\nTipe ini oleh Komatsu distandarkan untuk Serie Discharge Pressure 1402
\nkglcm , dan disebut dengan PAL\/R Pump . Volumetric efficiencynya dapat mencapai 93 % pada maksirnum Rpm dan > 88 % pada setengah rated rpmnya.<\/p><\/div>\n
