Keberhasilan suatu pengoperasian sebuah motor listrik bukan saja ditentukan pada \u201c Running Performance \u201c motor , tetapi juga juga ditentukan oleh \u201c Starting Performance \u201c. Pemilihan metoda starting banyak dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor seperti kapasitas daya motor \/ keperluan arus starting , torsi starting , kecepatan , jenis atau tipe motor dan macam-macam beban yang digerakkan oleh motor tersebut.<\/p>\n<p>Starting Motor induksi rotor sangkar dapat dilakukan antara lain :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Direct on line ( DOL )<\/strong><br \/>\nStarting dengan metoda ini menggunakan tegangan jala-jala \/ line penuh yang dihubungkan langsung ke terminal motor melalui rangkaia pengendali mekanik atau dengan relay kontaktor magnit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Star Delta<\/strong><br \/>\nStar awal dilakukan dalam hubngan bintang dan kemudian motor beroperasi normal dalam hungan delta. Pengendalian bintang ke delta dapat dilakukan dengan sakelar mekanik Y \/\u0394 atau dengan relay \/ kontaktor magnit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Starting Dengan Menggunakan Tahanan Primer (Primary Resistance)<\/strong><br \/>\nStarting dengan metoda ini adalah dengan menngunakan tahanan primer untuk menurunkan tegangan yang masuk ke motor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Auto Transformer<\/strong><br \/>\nStarting dengan metoda ini adalah dengan menghubungkan motor pada taptegangan sekunder auto transformer terendah dan bertahap dinaikkan hingga mencapai kecepatan nominal motor dan motor terhubung langsung pada tegangan penuh \/ tegangan nominal motor .<\/li>\n<li><strong>Motor Slip Ring \/ Rotor lilit.<\/strong><br \/>\nUntuk motor rotor lilit ( Slip Ring ) starting motor dilakukan dengan metoda pengaturan rintangan rotor ( Scondary Resistor ) . Motor beroperasi normal pada rotor dalam hubungan bintang.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Persyaratan Proteksi<\/strong><br \/>\nPersyaratan tentang instalasi listrik di Indonesia adalah Persyaratan Umum Instalasi Listrik (PUIL) yang diterbitkan oleh Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI), yang telah disesuaikan dengan International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Persyaratan proteksi tentang instalasi pada PUIL pada bab 3. Persyaratan proteksi meliputi bahaya kejut, sentuh langsung maupun tak langsung, pembumian, efek termal, arus lebih, dan lain sebagainya.<\/p>\n<p>Berkenaan dengan instalasi motor listrik, pasal-pasal pentingnya adalah; pasal 3.4.6 tentang IP (International Protection), yang melindungi motor dari benda padat dan benda cair. Dimana pada pelat nama motor tercantum IP.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Peralatan Proteksi<\/strong><br \/>\nPeralatan proteksi untuk instalasi pengontrolan motor meliputi :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hubung singkat<\/li>\n<li>Arus lebih<\/li>\n<li>Sambar Petir<\/li>\n<li>Tegangan lebih<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dalam tabel 3-1 akan diperlihatkan komponen-komponen peralatan proteksi instalasi pengontrolan motor.
