Misalnya suatu ampermeter dengan tiga batas ukur, memiliki tiga jenis tahanan paralel. Sakelar pada posisi 1 untuk memperoleh batas ukur skala pertama. Sakelar pada posisi 2 dipakai tahanan paralel 2 untuk memperoleh batas ukur kedua. Dan Sakelar pada posisi 3, untuk memperoleh batas ukur ketiga. Sakelar posisi 1,tahanan (Rp1 + Rp2 + Rp3) paralel dengan rangkaian (Rv + Rm). Sakelar posisi 2, tahanan(Rp2 + Rp3) paralel dengan rangkaian (Rp1 + Rv + Rm).
