Di pasaran kapasitor umumnya dijual dalam ukuran kapasitas yang jauh lebih kecil dari 1 Farrad. Untuk kapasitor polar (dwi kutub) dengan bahan dielektrik larutan elektrolit dijual dengan satuan mikro Farrad, umumnya dari 0,1 mikro Farrad hingga 47000 mikroFarrad (47 miliFarrad). Sedangkan untuk kapasitor non polar umumnya tersedia dengan kapasitas yang lebih kecil lagi, berkisar dari 1000 nanoFarrad hingga 1 pikoFarrad. \uf0b7<br \/>\n1 Pikofarad (pF) \uf0e0 1 x10 <sup>-12<\/sup>F \uf0b7<br \/>\n1 Nanofarad (pF) \uf0e0 1 x10 <sup>-19<\/sup>F \uf0b7<br \/>\n1 Microfarad (pF) \uf0e0 1 x10 <sup>\u20136 <\/sup>F<\/p>\n<p>Sebuah kapasitor dapat dibentuk oleh dua pelat penghantar yang terpasang secara parallel dan dipisahkan oleh suatu bahan dielektrikum yang juga berfungsi sebagai isolator. Agar didapatkan bentuk fisik dari kapasitor kecil ,maka lazimnya untuk memperoleh nilai kapasitansi yang layak, dibuat perbandingan dengan besaran-besaran ditentukan sedemikian sehingga dipilih luas pelat yang besar dengan permitivitas tinggi dan dielektrikumnya tipis.<\/p>\n<p>Perbandingan nilai kapasitansi sebuah kapasitor terhadap volume adalah penting sekali karena pada umumnya ruang yang tersedia untuk sebuah kapasitor sangat terbatas. Pada kebanyakan jenis kapasitor yang terbuat dari bahan lembaran tipis panjang dari kertas-plastik penghantar dan dipisahkan oleh dielektrikum tipis, lalu digulung secara bersama-sama. Permasalahan disini kemungkinan besar hanya akan didapatkan nilai kapasitansi yang sangat terbatas kira-kira hanya diperoleh sampai beberapa microfarad saja.<\/p>\n<p>Kendala yang lain adalah, bahwa dielektrikum yang mempunyai sifat isolasi dan relatif sangat tipis, pada kenyataanya harus mampu menahan tegangan balik DC yang cukup tanpa menjadi rusak, sehingga pemilihan bahan dielektrikum sangat menentukan kekuatan sebuah kapasitor.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/10\/image-41.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/10\/image_thumb-39.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"421\" height=\"178\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGambar 5.1.
