Magnet jarum digerakkan sekeliling penghantar. Perhatikan arah magnet jarum. Kemudian arah arus pada penghantar dibalik,perhatikan arah magnet dibandingkan dengan sebelumnya. Ternyata arah magnet jarum tergantung dari arah arus pada penghantar. Penghantar digenggam sedemikian, ibu jari menunjukkan arah arus, maka jemari yang lain menunjukkan arah putar medan magnet. Pada Gambar 1.111 diperlihatkan gambar arah medan dari sisi penampang penghantar.
