Penghantar ini dapat bergerak karena adanya medan magnet diseputar penghantar yang dialiri arus dan dengan medan magnet dari kutub U ke S (Gambar 1.129).

Bila penghantar diletakkan antara kutub, maka medan magnet seputar penghantar dan medan magnet dari kutub U ke S, pada sisi kanan penghantar medan magnet akan saling menguatkan karena memiliki arah yang sama. Sedang pada sisi kiri penghantar, medan magnet penghantar dengan medan magnet kutub U-S berlawanan sehingga saling melemahkan (Gambar 1.130). Karenanya penghantar akan bergerak ke kiri.
\nArah gerak ini dapat ditentukan dengan kaidah atau aturan tangan kiri, perhatikan Gambar 1.131.

Tangan kiri dengan ibu jari 90o<\/sup> terhadap 4 jari lain lainnya, diletakkan antara kutub dengan telapak tangan tertembus medan magnet dari kutub U. Empat jari menunjukkan arah arus dalam penghantar,maka ibu jari menunjukkan arah gerak penghantar.<\/p>\n

Daya Lorentz
\n<\/strong>Arus merupakan bergeraknya elektron bebas dalam benda. Hal ini mengakibatkan bergeraknya muatan dan mendorong ke sisi dimana gaya bergerak. Hal ini disebut dengan gaya Lorentz, yang besarnya akan semakin besar dengan semakin besarnya kerapatan magnet, muatan dan kecepatan pembawa muatan.
