Divais semikonduktor biasanya diklasifikasikan dalam 2 pembagian besar, yaitu: Bipolar Juction Transistor (BJT) atau biasa disebut dengan Transistor saja dan Field Effect Transistor (FET). Bab ini, dan beberapa bab selanjutnya, akan membahas karakteristik, konfigurasi dan penggunaan Transistor dalam rangkaian elektronika. Pada umumnya, Transistor digunakan pada 3 fungsi, yaitu: sebagai saklar, pembentuk sinyal dan penguat rangkaian. Contoh sebuah Transistor dan terminal-terminalnya tampak pada Gambar.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/03\/image-10.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/03\/image_thumb-10.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"306\" height=\"339\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Transistor (a) Fisik dan (b) Diagram<br \/>\nTransistor adalah divais 3 terminal (kaki) dan terdiri dari 2 tipe yang berbeda, yaitu Transistor NPN dan Transistor PNP. Blok diagram, skematik dan simbol Transistor, baik NPN dan PNP dapat dilihat pada Gambar 8.2.Transistor dibuat dengan menggabungkan 3 keping semikonduktor dengan doping dan ketebalan yang berbeda. Transistor NPN memilki 1 daerah p yang diapit oleh 2 daerah n, sedangkan Transistor PNP memiliki 1 daerah n yang diapit oleh 2 daerah n.<\/p>\n<p>Dari penggabungan ketiga terminal tersebut, maka terdapat 2 persambungan (junction) antara daerah n dan daerah p. Terminal Emiter didop sangat banyak dengan bagian yang sedang, Basis didop dengan konsentrasi sedikit sekali dengan bagian yang paling tipis, dan Kolektor didop sedang dengan bagian yang besar. Pendopan dan pembagian ini akan bermanfaat untuk mendukung fungsi dan cara kerja Transistor. Gambar dibawah ini memperlihatkan sebuah penampang semikonduktor yang difabrikasi untuk membuat sebuah Transistor.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/03\/image-15.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/03\/image_thumb-15.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"261\" height=\"247\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Penampang Transistor<br \/>\nPerbandingan konsentrasi doping antara terminal Basis, Kolektor, dan Emiter adalah 10<sup>15<\/sup>, 10<sup>17<\/sup>, dan 10<sup>19<\/sup>. Jadi, sifat elektrik masing-masing terminal tidak simetris dan masing-masing keluaran tidak dapat dipertukarkan.
