Setiap penggunaan listrik akan menurunkan tegangan itu. Ketika tegangan batterai turun ke tingkat ini, regulator tegangan mengaktifkan alternator untuk mengisi tegangan. Batterai membutuhkan output alternator sekitar 14,2 volt untuk membuat batterai kembali ke 12,6 volt. Siklus tegangan regulator alternatorakan ON dan OFF sebanyak 700 kali per menit. Selama kebutuhan arus listrik tinggi, alternator tetap dihidupkan untuk waktu yang lebih lama. Selama kebutuhan arus rendah, alternator berubah bebas dan tidak ada output yang dihasilkan.<\/p>\n<p>AC generator, atau alternator yang mampu memenuhi kebutuhan ini. Seperti diperlihatkan pada Gambar 1.10, jarum galvanometer (sebuah ammeter yang diaktifkan oleh jumlah arus yang terkecil) akan bergerak karena gaya electromotive yang tercipta ketika rotating shaft berputar serta medan magnet antara utara selatan memotong konduktor.<\/p>\n<p>Dari kegiatan ini maka akan terlihat bahwa:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jarum galvanometer akan bergerak jika konduktor atau magnet digerakkan.<\/li>\n<li>Arah ke mana jarum menyimpang akan bervariasi sesuai dengan arah ke mana konduktor atau magnet digerakkan.<\/li>\n<li>Jangkauan dari defleksi jarum akan lebih besar sebanding dengan kecepatan dari gerakan.<\/li>\n<li>Jarum tidak akan bergerak jika gerakan rotor shaft atau konduktor dihentikan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jika karena suatu sebab, mengakibatkan konduktor melalui fluks magnetik, maka gaya elektromagnetik akan terjadi di dalam konduktor. Fenomena ini disebut sebagai \u201cinduksi elektromagnetik\u201d.
