Tetapi tidak ada bahan yang dapat menjadi penghantar murni. Tetapi beberapa logam merupakan penghantar listrik yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan lainnya. Perak, tembaga, dan alumunium merupakan penghantar yang bagus. Besi, baja, dan arang juga dapat menghantarkan arus listrik, tetapi resistansinya sangat tinggi. Arang (carbon) seringkali digunakan dalam rangkaian listrik, tetapi bukan penghantar yang bagus.<\/p>\n<p>Penghantar yang sangat jelek lazim disebut sebagai resistor atau resistan atau tahanan atau penghambat. Resistor tidak memiliki elektron bebas atau sangat sedikit elektron bebas pada atomnya. Jadi sangat sulit bagi elektron bebas tersebut bergerak melewati ataom lainnya. Resistor atau tahanan adalah bahan listrik yang mempunyai daya hantar listrik rendah atau mempunyai resistansi tinggi. Karena nilai resitansinya tinggi maka resistor sering digunakan sebagai pembatas arus listrik.<\/p>\n<p>Bahan listrik yang sering digunakan sebagai resitor adalah arang atau karbon, dan nichrom.Dalam prakteknya untuk keperluan pengontrolan arus listrik digunakan resistor-resistor praktis yang didesain dalam berbagai harga. Di mana satuan ohm menyatakan jumlah resistan pada suatu rangkaian listrik. Resistan sebesar satu ohm memungkinkan adanya emf sebesar satu volt yang menyebabkan terjadinya aliran arus melalui rangkaian tersebut sebesar satu amper. Simbol yang digunakan untuk menyatakan satuan ohm adalah \u03a9. Nilai resistan listrik pada suatu konduktor tergantung pada empat aspek berikut:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Bahan yang digunakan<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Diameter atau ukuran konduktor<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Panjang konduktor<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Suhu konduktor<\/p>\n<p>Besarnya nilai resistansi suatu bahan konduktor dapat dihitung dengan menggunakan persamaan :<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/image13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/image_thumb13.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"65\" height=\"49\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\ndimana :<br \/>\nR : resistansi konduktor, diukur dalam satuan ohm<br \/>\n\u03c1 : resistivitas bahan, dalam satuan ohm.mm<sup>2<\/sup>\/m<br \/>\nl : panjang konduktor, diukur dalam satuan meter (m)<br \/>\nA : luas penampang kawat penghantar, dalam satuan mm<sup>2<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Pengaruh Suhu terhadap nilai Resitansi adalah<br \/>\n&#8211; menaikkan niali resistivitas pengantar logam murni dan logam campuran<br \/>\n&#8211; menurunkan nilai resistivitas penghantar non logam seperti elektrolit dan karbon serta bahan isolator seperti kertas, karet, gelas dan mika.<br \/>\nMisalkan, suatu resistor pada suhu t0 mempunyai resistansi R0. Bila suhu resistor naik menjadi t1, maka nilai resistansinya naik menjadi Rt.
