Kapasitor adalah elemen pasif rangkaian yang dapat menyimpan energi. Kapasitor terbuat dari dua plat penghantar paralel yang mempunyai luas A (m2) dan berjarak satu sama lain sebesar d (m). Dengan hubungan seperti itu maka bila kapasitor ini mendapat arus listrik maka akan membangkitkan tegangan pada kapasitronya, di mana besar nilai tegangan kapasitor adalah:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/10\/image3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/10\/image_thumb9.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"90\" height=\"100\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Di mana C adalah konstanta yang nilainya tergantung pada luas plat dan jarak pelat serta bahan isolasi yang terdapat diantara kedua plat tersebut. Sebuah kapasitor terhubung ke sumber tegangan arus searah melalui resistor R dan dikontrol oleh sakelar S seperti gambar berikut. Sampai di sini kalian pasti ingin mengetahui apa yang terjadi jika arus listrik searah dihubungkan dengan sebuah kapasitor. Akibatnya lempeng-lempeng dalam kapasitor, yang semula netral, membentuk polaritas yang berbeda. Melalui resistor R yang dirangkai seri dengan kapasitor, pengisian muatan mengalami hambatan. Oleh karenanya, selain bergantung pada tegangan sumber, pengisian muatan juga bergantung pada waktu.
