Arus sebanyak 6,24 triliun elektron (6,24 \u2022 1018) tiap detik pada luas penampang penghantar, maka hal ini dikenal sebagai kuat arus 1 Ampere. Dengan demikian dapat dikatakan :<br \/>\nWaktu = <u>Muatan listrik<\/u><br \/>\nKuat arus<\/p>\n<p>Ampere adalah satuan dasar yang sah untuk kuat arus listrik Sudah menjadi kebiasaan dalam keteknikan, supaya lebih sederhana maka besaran-besaran teknik seperti misalnya kuat arus diganti dengan simbol formula dan demikian pula untuk simbol nama satuan (simbol satuan).<br \/>\n<em>Simbol formula untuk kuat arus adalah I<br \/>\nSimbol satuan untuk Ampere adalah A<\/em><br \/>\nPembagian dan kelipatan satuan :<br \/>\n<em>1 kA = 1 Kiloampere = 1000 A = 10<sup>3<\/sup> A<br \/>\n1 mA = 1 Milliampere = 1\/1000 A = 10<sup>-3<\/sup> A<br \/>\n1 A = 1 Mikroampere = 1\/1000000 A = 10<sup>-6<\/sup> A<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pada \u201cundang-undang tentang besaran dalam hal pengukuran\u201d sejak 2 Juli 1969 kuat arus listrik ditetapkan sebagai besaran dasar dan untuk satuan dasar 1 Ampere didefinisikan dengan bantuan reaksi tenaga arus tersebut Kuat arus dalam teknik listrik berkisar pada jarak yang sangat luas :<br \/>\n<em>Lampu pijar : 100 s.d. 1000 mA<br \/>\nMotor listrik : 1 sampai 1000 A<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Peleburan : 10 s.d. 100 kA<br \/>\nPesawat telepon : beberapa A<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bagaimana cara mengetahui besarnya arus listrik? Alat yang dapat digunakan untuk mengetahui kuat arus listrik adalah amperemeter. Pada pengukuran kuat arus listrik, amperemeter disusun seri pada rangkaian listrik sehingga kuat arus yang mengalir melalui amperemeter sama dengan kuat arus yang mengalir pada penghantar. Perhatikan gambar 1.15 !<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/12\/image-5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/12\/image_thumb-5.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"346\" height=\"253\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cara memasang Amperemeter pada rangkaian listrik adalah sebagai berikut. a. Terminal positif amperemeter dihubungkan dengan kutub positif sumber tegangan (baterai). b. Terminal negatif amperemeter dihubungkan dengan kutub negatif sumber tegangan (baterai). Jika sakelar pada rangkaian dihubungkan, maka lampu pijar menyala dan jarum pada amperemeter menyimpang dari angka nol.<\/p>\n<p>Besar simpangan jarum penunjuk pada amperemeter tersebut menunjukkan besar kuat arus yang mengalir. Jika sakelar dibuka, maka lampu pijar padam dan jarum penunjuk pada amperemeter kembali menunjuk angka nol. Artinya tidak ada aliran listrik pada rangkaian tersebut. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa arus listrik hanya mengalir pada rangkaian tertutup. Alat ukur arus listrik adalah Ampermeter, ada Ampermeter analog dan Ampermeter digital.
