Mesin ini selanjutnya disebut sebagai pembangkit tegangan atau sumber tegangan. Dengan demikian pada salah satu klem dari sumber tegangan kelebihan elektron (kutub), klem yang lainnya kekurangan elektron (kutub). Maka antara kedua klem terdapat suatu perbedaan penempatan elektron. Keadaan seperti ini dikenal sebagai tegangan .<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tegangan listrik U adalah merupakan perbedaan penempatan elektron-elektron antara dua buah titik.<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/12\/image-8.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/12\/image_thumb-8.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"335\" height=\"121\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGambar 1.17 Sumber tegangan<\/p>\n<p><em>Satuan SI yang ditetapkan untuk tegangan adalah Volt<br \/>\nSimbol formula untuk tegangan adalah U<br \/>\nSimbol satuan untuk Volt adalah V<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pembagian dan kelipatan satuan :<br \/>\n<strong>1 MV = 1 Megavolt = 1000000 V = 10<sup>6<\/sup> V<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>1 kV = 1 Kilovolt = 1000 V = 10<sup>3<\/sup> V<br \/>\n1 mV = 1 Millivolt = 1\/1000 V = 10<sup>-3<\/sup> V<br \/>\n1 \uf06dV = 1 Mikrovolt = 1\/1000000 V = 10<sup>-6<\/sup> V<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ketetapan satuan SI untuk 1V didefinisikan dengan bantuan daya listrik. Pada rangkaian listrik dibedakan beberapa macam tegangan, yaitu tegangan sumber dan tegangan jatuh (lihat gambar 1.16).<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/12\/image-10.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/elektro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/12\/image_thumb-10.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"302\" height=\"156\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGambar 1.18 Tegangan sumber dan tegangan jatuh pada suatu rangkaian<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tegangan sumber (simbol Us) adalah tegangan yang dibangkitkan didalam sumber tegangan.<\/strong><br \/>\nDan dengan demikian maka tegangan sumber merupakan penyebab atas terjadinya aliran arus. Tegangan sumber didistribusikan ke seluruh rangkaian listrik dan digunakan pada masing-masing beban. Serta disebut juga sebagai : &#8220;Tegangan jatuh pada beban.&#8221; Dari gambar 1.18, antara dua titik yang manapun pada rangkaian arus, misal antara titik 1 dan 2 atau antara titik 2 dan 3, maka hanya merupakan sebagian tegangan sumber yang efektip. Bagian tegangan ini disebut tegangan jatuh atau tegangan saja.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tegangan jatuh atau secara umum tegangan (simbol U) adalah tegangan yang digunakan pada beban.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Arah tegangan<\/strong><br \/>\nTegangan selalu mempunyai arah reaksi tertentu, yang dapat digambarkan melalui suatu anak panah tegangan. Normalisasi anak panah tegangan untuk arah tegangan positip ditunjukkan dari potensial tinggi (misalnya kutub plus) menuju ke potensial rendah (misal kutub minus), dalam hal ini memperlihatkan potensial tingginya adalah positif dan potensial rendahnya adalah negatif.<\/p>\n<p>Contoh :<br \/>\nPada gambar 1.19 diberikan bermacam-macam potensial. Pada pelaksanaan praktiknya hal ini berarti : Anak panah tegangan untuk sumber tegangan adalah mengarah dari kutub plus menuju ke kutub minus.
