{"id":1973,"date":"2024-03-08T02:02:45","date_gmt":"2024-03-07T19:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/industri\/?p=1973"},"modified":"2024-03-05T12:48:57","modified_gmt":"2024-03-05T05:48:57","slug":"strain-gauge-position-sensor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/industri\/strain-gauge-position-sensor\/","title":{"rendered":"Strain Gauge Position Sensor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"notranslate\">Position measurement can be done by analog and digital.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> For a shift that is not too far away measurements can be done using analog means, while for longer shift distance it is better to use digital way.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> Position or displacement sensor results can be used to measure linear or angular displacement.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> Technical treatment of the sensor can be done by directly connected (contact) and not connected directly (without contact).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"notranslate\"> Strain gauge can be used as a position sensor.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> SG in its operation exploits a change of resistance so that it can be used to measure the very small displacement due to <i>tensile strains<\/i> .<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> The definition of elasticity ( <i>\u03b5<\/i> ) strain gauge is the ratio of the length change (\u0394L) to the original length ( <i>L<\/i> ), namely:<\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/industri\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/clip_image001-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"clip_image001\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/industri\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/clip_image001_thumb-1.jpg\" alt=\"clip_image001\" width=\"81\" height=\"51\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"notranslate\"> or the ratio of resistance change ( <i>R<\/i> ) to the original resistance ( <i>R<\/i> ) is equal to the gage factor ( <i>G<\/i> <i><sub>f<\/sub><\/i> ) times the elasticity of starin gage ( <i>\u03b5<\/i> ):<\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/industri\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/clip_image006-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"clip_image006\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/industri\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/clip_image006_thumb-1.jpg\" alt=\"clip_image006\" width=\"102\" height=\"61\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"notranslate\"> SG construction is made of thin metal material (foil) placed on paper.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> For SG detection process attached with the specimen in two ways:<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"notranslate\"> 1. Direction of stretching \/ stretching made as long as possible (axial)<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"notranslate\"> 2. The direction of perpendicular density \/ stretching is made as short as possible (lateral)<\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/industri\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/clip_image008-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"clip_image008\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/industri\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/clip_image008_thumb-2.jpg\" alt=\"clip_image008\" width=\"244\" height=\"114\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span class=\"notranslate\"> Figure 3.24 Physical form of strain gauge<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"notranslate\"> The gauge factor ( <i>G<\/i> <i><sub>f<\/sub><\/i> ) represents the elasticity level of the metal material of the SG.<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"notranslate\"> \u2022 incompressible metal Gf = 2<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"notranslate\"> \u2022 piezoresistive Gf = 30 \/<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"notranslate\"> \u2022 piezoresistive sensors are used on pressure sensor ICs<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"notranslate\"> To perform the sensor on the specimen the circuit and placement of SG is<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"notranslate\"> \u2022 arranged in a series of bridges<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"notranslate\"> \u2022 two strain gauges are used adjacent, one for stretching \/ density, one for temperature compensation at positions not affected by stretching \/ density<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"notranslate\"> \u2022 frequency response is determined where the strain gauge is located<\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/industri\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/clip_image011-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"clip_image011\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/industri\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/clip_image011_thumb-1.jpg\" alt=\"clip_image011\" width=\"473\" height=\"129\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span class=\"notranslate\"> Figure 3.25 Installation of strain gauge: (a) bridge circuit<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"notranslate\"> (b) gage1 and gage 2 positions 90 (c) gage 1 and gage 2 parallel positions<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Position measurement can be done by analog and digital.
