Prinsip dasarnya adalah membentuk sedikit perubahan kecepatan dari aliran fluida sehingga diperoleh perubahan tekanan yang dapat diamati. Pengubahan kecepatan aliran fluida dapat dilakukan dengan mengubah diameter pipa, hubungan ini diperoleh dari Hukum kontiunitas aliran fluida.<\/p>\n<p>Perhatikan rumus berikut: <i>A<\/i><sub>1<\/sub>.<i>D<\/i><sub>1<\/sub> = <i>A<\/i><sub>2<\/sub> .<i>D<\/i><sub>2<\/sub> , di mana : A = luas penampang pipa, B = debit fluida<br \/>\nKarena debit fluida berhubungan langsung dengan kecepatan fluida, maka jelas kecepatan fluida dapat diubah dengan cara mengubah diameter pipa.<\/p>\n<p><b>b. Orifice Plate<\/b><br \/>\nAlat ukur terdiri dari pipa dimana dibagian dalamnya diberi pelat berlubang lebih kecil dari ukuran diameter pipa. Sensor tekanan diletakan disisi pelat bagian inlet (P<sub>1<\/sub>) dan satu lagi dibagian sisi pelat bagian outlet (P<sub>2<\/sub>). Jika terjadi aliran dari inlet ke outlet, maka tekanan P<sub>1<\/sub> akan lebih besar dari tekanan outlet P<sub>2<\/sub>.<\/p>\n<p>Keuntungan utama dari Orfice plate ini adalah dari :<br \/>\n1. Konstruksi sederhana<br \/>\n2. Ukuran pipa dapat dibuat persis sama dengan ukuran pipa sambungan.<br \/>\n3. Harga pembuatan alat cukup murah<br \/>\n4. Output cukup besar<\/p>\n<p>Kerugian menggunakan cara ini adalah :<br \/>\n1. Jika terdapat bagian padat dari aliran fluida, maka padat bagian tersebut akan terkumpul pada bagian pelat disisi inlet.<br \/>\n2. Jangkauan pengukuran sangat rendah<br \/>\n3. Dimungkinkan terjadinya aliran <i>Turbulen<\/i> sehingga menyebabkan kesalahan pengukuran jadi besar karena tidak mengikuti prinsip aliran <i>Laminer.<\/i><br \/>\n4.
