Viscometer adalah alat untuk mengukur besar viskositas suatu cairan. Ada beberapa komponen terkait viscometer antara lain :
\nA. Ball Viscometer atau Falling sphere viscometer.
\n<\/strong>Besar viskositas kenematik adalah kecepatan bola jatuh setinggi h dibagi dengan berat jenis cairan yang sedang diukur. (lihat gambar 1)

B. Viscosity margins.<\/strong>
\nMaksud dari viscosity margins adalah batas-batas atas dan bawah yang perlu diketahui. Karena untuk viskositas yang terlalu rendah akan mengakibatkan daya pelumas kecil, daya perapat kecil sehingga mudah bocor. Sedangkan apabila viscositas terlalu tinggi juga akan meningkatkan gesekan dalam cairan sehingga memerlukan tekanan yang lebih tinggi .<\/p>\n

C. Capillary viscometer<\/strong>
\nCara pengukurannya adalah sebagai berikut: (lihat gambar 2) Cairan hidrolik yang akan diukur dituangkan melalui lubang A hingga ke kontainer E yang suhunya diatur. Melalui kapiler C zat cair dihisap hingga naik pada labu D sampai garis L1, kemudian semua lubang ditutup. Untuk mengukurnya , buka bersama-sama lubang A,B dan C dan hitung waktu yang digunakan oleh cairan untuk turun sampai ke L2 . Waktu tersebut menunjukkan viskositas cairan. Makin kental cairan hidrolik akan makin lama untuk turun dan berarti viskositas makin besar.<\/p>\n

D. Viscosity-pressure characteristics.<\/strong>
