Defrost heater adalah komponen listrik pada mesin refrigerasi untuk mengendalikan jumlah lapisan bunga es pada permukaan evaporator. Bila lapisan bunga es yang terakumulasi pada permukaan evaporator tidak dihilangkan maka akan mengganggu proses pendinginan. Oleh karena itu pada unit refrigerasi baik untuk keperluan domestik maupun komersial telah dilengkapi dengan sistem defrost otomatik, yakni dengan menggunakan defrost timer.<\/p>\n<p>Defrost timer merupakan salah satu piranti pengaman yang dipasang pada unit refrigerator. Gambar 2.23 memperlihatkan tipikal defrost timer, yang beroperasi secara elektromekanik. Gambar 2.24 memperlihatkan tipikal defrost timer yang beroperasi secara mikroelektronik. Piranti kontrol elektronik dilengkapi dengan microprosesor yang dapat diprogram sesuai keperluan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mesin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/09\/image40.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mesin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/09\/image_thumb40.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"327\" height=\"185\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGambar 2.23 Tipikal Defrost Timer mekanik<\/p>\n<p>Sistem pencairan bunga es (defrost) otomatik yang diterapkan pada unit refrigerator menggunakan timer untuk mengaktifkan siklus defrost. Pada sistem defrost otomatik, ditambahkan heater (elemen pemenas) dan thermostat pada koil evaporator. Defrost timer mengatur siklus pencairan bunga es di evaporator, lazimnya setiap 8 jam. Bila saat pencairan bunga es tiba, maka kompresor akan berhenti bekerja, dan defrost heater akan aktif. Defrost heater akan memanaskan evaporator sehingga bunga es mencair.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mesin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/09\/image41.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mesin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/09\/image_thumb41.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"278\" height=\"187\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGambar 2.24 Tipikal Defrost timer elektronik<\/p>\n<p>Defrost thermostat akan memonitor suhu evaporator, dan pada saat suhu evaporator mencapai suatu titik tertentu maka defrost heater menjadi tidak aktif. Defrost thermostat lazim disebut sebagai defrost termination thermostat atau defrost terminator atau defrost thermal switch. Target suhu evaporator biasanya 40 dan 60 0F. Gambar 2.25 memperlihatkan lokasi penempatan defrost termination dan konstruksinya.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mesin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/09\/image42.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mesin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/09\/image_thumb42.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"420\" height=\"181\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGambar 2.25 Tipikal Defrost terminator<\/p>\n<p>Air kondesat ditampung oleh sejenis baki yang diletakkan di bagian dasar evaporator di mana udara panas dari kompresor dan condenser mengalir melewatinya sehingga mempercepat proses penguapannya.<br \/>\nBeberapa system siklus pencairan bunga es dilaksanakan berbasis hitungan waktu. Besaran waktu dipilih berdasarkan interval antar defrost. Jika timer menghitung waktu yang telah dipilih telah tercapai, maka system defrost akan mulai bekerja, tanpa memperhitungkan kebutuhan pendinginan di dalam system.<\/p>\n<p>Konfigurasi ini lazim disebut sebagai continuous run. Tipe perhitungan waktu yang lebih efektif adalah sistem yang memperhitungkan jumlah waktu kompresor bekerja. Bila timer mendeteksi akumulasi waktu kerja kompresor sesuai dengan pengaturan waktu yang diinginkan maka system defrost akan bekerja.
