Motor listrik mengoperasikan kompresor refrigerasi, menaikkan tekanan dan mensirkulasi refrigerant setiap saat. Gambar 2.1 memperlihatkan tipikal kompresor hermetik yang lazim digunakan pada unit tata udara. Motor listrik yang digunakan untuk menggerakkan kompresor kapasitas di bawah 2,5 HP adalah motor satu fasa dengan tipe motor capasitor start dan capasitor run.<\/p>\n<p>Untuk kompresor di atas 5 HP biasanya menggunakan motor 3 fasa. (pembahasan motor listrik yang kebih rinci akan dibahas di bab VIII. Gambar 2.2 memperlihatkan tipikal motor fan kondensor. Motor listrik yang digunakan untuk mengoperasikan fan kondensor berskala kecil, biasanya digunakan tipe motor split kapasitor.
