Thermocouple adalah transduser aktif suhu yang tersusun dari dua buah logam berbeda dengan titik pembacaan pada pertemuan kedua logam dan titik yang lain sebagai outputnya. Thermocouple merupakan salah satu sensor yang paling umum digunakan untuk mengukur suhu karena relatif murah namun akurat yang dapat beroperasi pada suhu panas maupun dingin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Konstruksi Sensor Suhu Thermocouple<br \/>\n<\/strong>Berasal dari kata \u201cThermo\u201d yang berarti energi panas dan \u201cCouple\u201dyang berarti pertemuan dari dua buah benda. Thermocouple adalah transduser aktif suhu yang tersusun dari dua buah logam berbeda dengan titik pembacaan pada pertemuan kedua logam dan titik yang lain sebagai outputnya. Ia menghubungkan tembaga dan besi dalam sebuah rangkaian. Di antara kedua logam tersebut lalu diletakkan jarum kompas. Ketika sisi logam tersebut dipanaskan, jarum kompas ternyata bergerak. Belakangan diketahui, hal ini terjadi karena aliran listrik yang terjadi pada logam menimbulkan medan magnet. Medan magnet inilah yang menggerakkan jarum kompas. Fenomena tersebut kemudian dikenal dengan efek Seebeck<\/p>\n<p>Output sensor suhu thermocouple berupa tegangan dalam satuan mili Volt. Perilaku beberapa jenis thermocouple<\/p>\n<p>Penemuan Seebeck ini memberikan inspirasi pada Jean Charles Peltier untuk melihat kebalikan dari fenomena tersebut. Dia mengalirkan listrik pada dua buah logam yang direkatkan dalam sebuah rangkaian. Ketika arus listrik dialirkan, terjadi penyerapan panas pada sambungan kedua logam tersebut dan pelepasan panas pada sambungan yang lainnya. Pelepasan dan penyerapan panas ini saling berbalik begitu arah arus dibalik.<\/p>\n<p>Penemuan yang terjadi pada tahun 1934 ini kemudian dikenal dengan efek Peltier. Sir William Thomson, menemukan arah arus mengalir dari titik panas ke titik dingin dan sebaliknya. Efek Seebeck, Peltier, dan Thomson inilah yang kemudian menjadi dasar pengembangan teknologi termoelektrik.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mikro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/12\/image-27.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mikro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/12\/image_thumb-28.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"406\" height=\"215\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tipe ini termasuk jenis yang paling tua, yang konstruksinya terdiri dari satu tabung gelas yang mempunyai pipa kapiler kecil berisi vacuum dan cairan ini biasa berupa air raksa. Perubahan panas menyebabkan perubahan ekspansi dari cairan atau dikenal dengan temperature to volumatic change kemudian volumetric change to level secara simultan. Perubahan level ini menyatakan perubahan panas atau temperatur, ketelitian jenis ini tergantung dari rancangan atau ketelitian tabung, juga penyekalannya.<\/p>\n<p>Cara lain dari jenis ini adalah mengunakan gas tabung yang diisi gas yang dihubungkan dengan pipa kapiler yang dilindungi oleh spiral menuju ke spiral bourdon yang dipakai untuk menggerakkan pivot, selanjutnya menggerakkan pointer.
