Alat ini berbentuk foil logam atau kawat logam yang bersifat insulatif (isolasi) yang ditempel pada benda yang akan diukur tekanannya, dan tekanan berasal dari pembebanan. Prinsipnya adalah jika tekanan pada benda berubah, maka foil atau kawat akan terdeformasi, dan tahanan listrik alat ini akan berubah. Perubahan tahanan listrik ini akan dimasukkan kedalam rangkaian jembatan Whetstone yang kemudian akan diketahui berapa besar tahanan pada Strain Gauge .<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mikro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/clip_image001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; display: inline;\" title=\"clip_image001\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mikro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/clip_image001_thumb-1.jpg\" alt=\"clip_image001\" width=\"288\" height=\"190\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nTegangan keluaran dari jembatan Wheatstone merupakan sebuah ukuran regangan yang terjadi akibat tekanan dari setiap elemen pengindera Strain Gauge .<\/p>\n<p>Simbol dari Strain Gauge<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mikro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/clip_image008.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; margin: 0px; display: inline;\" title=\"clip_image008\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mikro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/clip_image008_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"clip_image008\" width=\"153\" height=\"127\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tekanan itu kemudian dihubungkan dengan regangan sesuai dengan hukum Hook yang berbunyi : Modulus elastis adalah rasio tekanan dan regangan. Dengan demikian jika modulus elastis adalah sebuah permukaan benda dan regangan telah diketahui, maka tekanan bisa ditentukan. Bila dua Gauge atau lebih digunakan, maka tekanan pada pelacakan arah setiap Gauge bisa ditentukan dengan menggunakan perhitungan. Namun demikian persamaannya memiliki tingkat kompleksitas yang berbeda tergantung pada kombinasi dan orientasi Gauge tersebut.<\/p>\n<p>Kepekaan sebuah Strain Gauge disebut dengan faktor Gaugedan perbandingan antara unit resistansi dengan perubahan unit panjang adalah :<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mikro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; margin: 0px; display: inline;\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/mikro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/image_thumb.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"93\" height=\"63\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nDimana :<br \/>\n\u0394R = Perubahan tahanan Gauge<br \/>\n\u0394l = Perubahan panjang bahan<br \/>\nR = Tahanan Gauge nominal<br \/>\nl = Panjang normal bahan<\/p>\n<p>Jadi regangan diartikan sebagai perbandingan tanpa dimensi, perkalian unit yang sama, misalnya mikroinci \/ inci atau secara umum dalam persen (untuk deformasi yang besar) atau yang paling umum lagi dalam mikrostrain.
