Sifat ini sangat penting karena benda keramik harus cukup kuat untuk diangkat, disempurnakan, dan disusun dalam tungku pembakaran. Tanah liat yang memiliki plastisitas tinggi akan tinggi pula kekuatan keringnya. Ballclay merupakan bahan yang memiliki kekuatan kering yang baik, tetapi bila dibuat benda akan timbul retak-retak.<\/p>\n<p>Kekuatan kering dipengaruhi:<br \/>\n1) kehalusan butir<br \/>\n2) plastisitas<br \/>\n3) waktu pemeraman (ageing)<br \/>\n4) jumlah air pembentuk<br \/>\n5) pencampuran dengan bahan lain<br \/>\n6) teknik pembentukan<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/seni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2015\/09\/image3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/seni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2015\/09\/image_thumb2.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"444\" height=\"225\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGambar 30. Benda keramik melalui tahap pengeringan<\/p>\n<p><strong>Warna Bakar<\/strong><br \/>\nWarna tanah liat merupakan salah satu karakter fisik yang dapat dilihat langsung.Warna ini ditimbulkan oleh pengotor (impurity) yang bersifat organik maupun anorganik.Tanah liat dalam keadaan mentah yang diperoleh dari tempat asalnya (deposit) memiliki berbagai warna seperti krem, kuning kecoklatan, merah kecoklatan, abu-abu, dan hitam.Perbedaan warna dipengaruhi oleh perbandingan kadar kandungan bahan tanah liat antara lain campuran atau kotoran humus (organik), oksida besi (Fe), dan lain-lain.<\/p>\n<p>Setelah mengalami proses pembakaran warna tanah liat akan muncul yang kadang berbeda dengan warna dalam keadaan mentah, hal ini dipengaruhi oleh zat\/bahan terkandung didalamnya yang terikat secara kimiawi. Kotoran yang bersifat organik akan terbakar habis pada waktu proses pembakaran berlangsung, sedangkan bahan yang terikat secara kimiawi akan menyebabkan tanah liat menjadi berwarna.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/seni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2015\/09\/image7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/seni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2015\/09\/image_thumb6.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"318\" height=\"188\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGambar 31. Warna tanah liat yang berbeda-beda<\/p>\n<p>Warna tanah liat disebabkan oleh zat yang mengotorinya.Warna abu-abu sampai hitam mengandung zat arang dan sisa-sisa tumbuhan, sedangkan warna merah mengandung oksida besi (Fe).Warna juga dapat disebabkan oleh campuran oksida lain sebagai pewarna seperti: kobalt (Co), tembaga\/cupper (Cu), krom (Cr), besi (Fe), mangaan (Mn).
