Agar tanah liat berubah menjadi keramik, maka tanah liat yang telah dibentuk tersebut harus melalui proses pembakaran dengan suhu melebihi 600\u00baC. Setelah melalui suhu tersebut, tanah liat akan mengalami perubahan menjadi suatu mineral yang padat, keras, dan permanen, perubahan ini disebut \u2018ceramic change\u2019 atauperubahan keramik.<\/p>\n<p>Tanah liat yang dibakar kurang dari 600\u00baC belum memiliki kematangan yang tepat walaupun sudah mengalami perubahan keramik, suhu kematangan tanah liat atau vitrifikasi adalah kondisi keramik yang telah mencapai suhu kematangan secara tepat tanpa mengalamiperubahan bentuk. Untuk itu sebelum melaksanakan proses pembakaran, perlu diketahui terlebih dahulu jenis tanah liat yang digunakan untuk membentuk benda keramik.<\/p>\n<p>Suhu kematangan tanah liat mempunyai rentang yang cukup lebar, yaitu antara 600\u00baC- 2000\u00baC.Apabila tanah liat yang dibakar pada temperatur rendah sudah mengkaca, berarti vitrifikasi tanah liat tersebut rendah.Dan untuk memperbaikinya dapat dilakukan dengan menambahkan kaolin atau silika.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/seni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2015\/09\/image2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/seni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2015\/09\/image_thumb.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"387\" height=\"128\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGambar 24.Efek vitrifikasi.<\/p>\n<p>Suhu pembakaran sangat berpengaruh terhadap vitrifikasi dan kekuatan tanah liat.Semakin tinggi suhu bakar tanah liat earthenware dan stonewaremaka semakin mendekati vitrifikasi dan semakin tinggi kekuatan bakarnya.
