Pada perkembangannya teknologi pengeboran semakin maju, dan hingga saat ini sistem peralatan bor putar adalah teknologi yang paling tepat untuk digunakan dalam operasi pembuatan sumur pengeboran. Pada sistem peralatan bor putar ini memiliki beberapa fungsi utama yang mendukung dalam kegiatan operasi pengeboran, secara garis besar peralatan pengeboran dapat dibagi menjadi lima sistem peralatan utama, yaitu, sistem angkat (hoisting system), sistem putar (rotating system), sistem sirkulasi (circulating system), sistem tenaga (power system) dan sistem pencegah sembur liar (Blow Out Preventer system).<\/p>\n

Pada prinsipnya lima sistem ini saling mendukung satu sama lainnya. Dalam kegiatan yang dilakukan pada operasi pengeboran, lima sistem ini bekerja secara bersamaan dan saling mendukung. Sehingga keberhasilan suatu operasi pengeboran sangat tergantung pada baik tidaknya performa dari lima sistem ini. Dalam operasi pengeboran yang menggunakan sistem peralatan putar ini dikenal dua jenis sistem putar yakni sistem Kelly dan top drive.<\/p>\n

Pada sistem Kelly putaran yang dihasilkan adalah dengan mentrasfer putaran dari rotary table ke Kelly dan diteruskan ke rangkaian pengeboran lainnya. Sedangkan pada top drive, rangkain pengeboran langsung disambungkan ke top drive dan putaran yang dihasilkan adalah dari motor yang ada pada top drive.

Sistem Angkat<\/strong>
\nSistem angkat (hoisting system) fungsi utamanya adalah memberikan ruang kerja yang cukup bagi crew pengeboran dan untuk pengangkatan serta penurunan rangkaian pipa bor dan peralatan lainnya. Sistem angkat ini sangat penting dalam kegiatan menyambung dan melepaskan rangkaian pengeboran seperti bit, drill collar, drill pipe dan atau Kelly.
