Sistem sirkulasi tersusun oleh empat sub komponen utama, yaitu :<br \/>\n1. Lumpur pengeboran<br \/>\n2. Tempat persiapan<br \/>\n3. Peralatan sirkulasi<br \/>\n4. Tempat pengkondisian lumpur<\/p>\n<p>Secara umum lumpur pengeboran dapat disirkulasikan dengan urutan sebagai berikut: lumpur dalam steel mud pit dihisap oleh pompa &#8211; pipa tekanan \u2013 stand pipe \u2013 rotary hose \u2013 swivel head \u2013 kelly \u2013 drill pipe \u2013 drill collar \u2013 bit \u2013 annulus drill collar \u2013 annulus drill pipe \u2013 mud line\/flow line, shale shaker \u2013 steel mud pit \u2013 dihisap pompa kembali dan seterusnya. Hal ini bisa dilihat pada Gambar 4.31.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/sipil\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/01\/image-22.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/sipil\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/01\/image_thumb-22.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"313\" height=\"291\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGambar 4.31. Sistem Sirkulasi<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>Lumpur pengeboran<\/strong> merupakan faktor yang penting dalam pengeboran. Lumpur pengeboran pada mulanya hanya berfungsi sebagai pembawa serbuk bor (cutting) dari dasar lubang bor ke permukaan. Lumpur pengeboran mempunyai fungsi penting dalam operasi pengeboran, antara lain :<br \/>\n&#8211; Mengangkat cutting ke permukaan.<br \/>\n&#8211; Mengontrol tekanan formasi.<br \/>\n&#8211; Mendinginkan dan melumasi bit dan drill string.<br \/>\n&#8211; Memberi dinding pada lubang bor dengan mud cake.<br \/>\n&#8211; Menahan cutting saat sirkulasi dihentikan.<br \/>\n&#8211; Mengurangi sebagian berat rangkaian pipa bor (Bouyancy effect).<br \/>\n&#8211; Melepas cutting dan pasir dipermukaan.<br \/>\n&#8211; Mendapatkan informasi (mud logging, sample log).<br \/>\n&#8211; Sebagai media logging.<\/p>\n<p>Ada 2 (dua) hal penting dalam penentuan komposisi lumpur pengeboran, yaitu :<br \/>\n&#8211; Semakin ringan dan encer suatu lumpur pengeboran, semakin besar laju penembusan.<br \/>\n&#8211; Semakin berat dan kental suatu lumpur pengeboran, semakin mudah untuk mengontrol kondisi bawah permukaan, seperti masuknya fluida formasi bertekanan tinggi (dikenal sebagai \u201ckick\u201d). Bila keadaan ini tidak dapat diatasi akan menyebabkan terjadinya semburan liar (blow out).<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Tempat persiapan<\/strong> ditempatkan pada tempat dimulainya sirkulasi lumpur, yaitu di dekat pompa lumpur. Tempat persiapan lumpur pengeboran terdiri dari peralatan\u2013peralatan yang diatur untuk memberikan fasilitas persiapan atau treatment lumpur bor.
