Bahkan berlanjut hingga ke volume batang pohon berdiri maupun yang telah ditebang. Untuk memberikan pemahaman yang lebih dalam mengenai diameter dari suatu lingkaran, di bawah ini terdapat gambar diameter dan lingkaran. Dari Gambar 1 dapat dipelajari mengenai konsep diameter dan lingkaran, yaitu :<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/sipil\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/08\/image-6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tneutron.net\/sipil\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/08\/image_thumb-6.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"244\" height=\"202\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGambar 1. Diameter dan Lingkaran<\/p>\n<p>Katakan saja ada dua buah titik S dan titik P dengan jarak sebesar r. Kemudian titik S digerakkan searah jarum jam dengan titik P tetap hingga ke posisi (1), maka akan membentuk busur yang melingkar dengan sudut sebesar \u03b1. Selanjutnya terus bergerak ke posisi (2). Saat titik S pada posisi (2), maka jarak dari posisi awal (0) dan posisi (2) sepanjang 2r berupa garis lurus dan sudut \u03b1 yang dibentuk sebesar 180\u00b0. Jarak ini yang dinyatakan sebagai diameter dengan notasi D = 2r.<\/p>\n<p>Titik S bergerak kembali ke posisi awal dan akhirnya bertumpu kembali pada posisi awal (0). Ini berarti bahwa titik S membentuk busur pada bidang datar dengan sudut 360\u00b0. Busur yang dibentuk tersebut dinyatakan sebagai lingkaran. Dengan memperhatikan konsep diameter dan lingkaran tersebut, kesimpulan apa yang dapat diperoleh? Sejalan dengan penjelasan mengenai diameter dan lingkaran di atas, maka :<br \/>\n(a) diameter batang merupakan garis lurus yang menghubungkan dua titik di tepi batang dan melalui sumbu batang.<br \/>\n(b) Lingkaran (keliling) batang merupakan panjang garis busur yang melingkar batang.<\/p>\n<p>Dalam rumus luas bidang dasar pohon terdapat nilai \u03c0 yang besarannya telah menjadi konstanta di seluruh dunia, yaitu 22\/7 atau 3,14. Pertanyaan yang timbul dalam benak kita selanjutnya adalah : bagaimana nilai \u03c0 diperoleh?
