Pengetahuan kurva karakteristik pompa diperlukan untuk memilih pompa pada kondisi operasional tertentu yang memberikan nilai efisiensi tinggi dan biaya operasional yang rendah. Umumnya Head, input tenaga dan efisiensi disusun sebagai ordinat sedangkan kapasitas sebagai absis pada kecepatan pompa konstan.<\/p>\n<p>NPSH apabila ditunjukan juga dipasang pada ordinat. Sekitar 6-12 titik digunakan selama uji pompa (pump test). Kurva yang halus dihubungkan pada titik-titik tersebut. Kurva head \u2013 kapasitas memperlihatkan berapa besarnya debit air akan dikeluarkan pada head tertentu. Debit bertambah dengan menurunnya head. Efisiensi yang dihasilkan naik dari nol pada debit nol sampai suatu titik maksimum dan selanjutnya menurun kembali.<\/p>\n<p>BHP pada pompa sentrifugal biasanya naik sampai pada suatu selang sebagaimana debit bertambah, mencapai suatu titik maksimum. Kurva ini berubah dengan kecepatan pompa. Maka kecepatan harus dipertimbangkan dalam pemilihan pompa untuk mendapatkan efisiensi maksi-mum. Tipikal Kurva Karakteristik Pompa Sentrifugal<\/p>\n<p>Cara membaca kurva, misalnya pada Gambar 9.17 diinginkan untuk mendapatkan head, HP dan efisiensi pada kapasitas. Dengan membaca kurva perpotongan antara head, BHP akan diperoleh efisiensi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Water Horse Power (WHP):<\/strong><br \/>\nWater horse power (WHP) adalah tenaga kuda teoritis yang diperlukan untuk memompa air dengan debit dan tinggi head tertentu.
