Plasticity Tests Clay Body

Testing plasticity clay aims to determine the physical properties of clay. Plasticity or plastic nature of clay is a trait that is able to maintain the shape of the end of the formation process has been completed though. In other words, the clay has the properties can be formed with manual techniques or by using a power masinal shaper, shaper when power is stopped, the final form is still able to survive.

The level of plasticity clay between each other differently, depending on the type of clay, the amount of water required to make into a plastic dry clay, content of organic matter such as humus and clay particles fineness. The finer the particle size of the clay, the more water will be absorbed and allows each particle to each slide, so it becomes increasingly plastic clay.

The quality of some types of clay plasticity vary, depending on the particle size and fineness. In addition, the clay brooded, the better the mixing that takes place through a relatively long ripening stage, because the enzymes are mixed with water to coat each particle plasticity and help facilitate each particle for each slide when under pressure.

To test the plasticity of clay, clay should be prepared as carefully as possible, because the core of plasticity is a harmonious relationship between plasticity clay with water. The nature of clay is: when most of the water dough, clay mass will be very hard and cracked so hard to set up. Therefore, to obtain the appropriate level of plasticity, experiments need to be done on some mixture of clay mass, provided that the water is not too much and not too little.

Testing process Plasticity Clay
1. Prepare plastic clay that has been prepared by curing and do pengulian clay until homogeneous. Do not forget the formula of the clay.
2. Make several strands of plastic clay of some clay formula made with strands diameter between 1 cm-1, 5cm long and about 15 cm.

3. Bend / torsion bend the plastic clay from the clay formulas to form a knot

4. Rates torsion clay arch results from each of the clay formula, and classified according to the degree of plasticity as shown in the picture below
a. If the peak of the arch torsion cracking clay does not occur, then the highly plastic clay

b. If the peak of the arch torsion occurs cracking clay, the clay means less plastic
c. If the peak of the arch torsion occurs slightly cracking clay, meaning that enough plastic clay
d. If the peak of the arch torsion occurs much clay cracks or fractures, that means no plastic clay

How to Overcome Test Results
a. If the clay is too plastic, overcome by adding non-plastic materials such as quartz, kaolin or grog with a certain percentage.
b. In contrast to cope with less clay or plastic,
You need to add materials such as plastic or bentonite ballclay by a certain percentage.
