Procedure Acquire Oil Samples

1 Scope

Manual includes procedures for obtaining a representative sample (representative) of oil products in the form of liquids, semi-liquids or solids that have a vapor pressure at ambient conditions below 101 kPa (14.7 psia).

2 Summary of Methods
 These instructions provide manual procedure to obtain a sample of petroleum and its products in the form of liquid, semi-liquid or solid from a tank, pipes, drums, barrels (a barrel), cans, tubes, bags, and open spaces.
 This standard is intended in detail the factors needed to be considered in obtaining a representative sample. These considerations include the analytical test to be held against the sample, the type of sample container to be used and some special instructions are required for specific materials to be taken.

3 Things You Need to Look For
 Test physical and chemical properties
Testing of physical properties and chemical properties which will be conducted on sample will determine the sampling procedure, the amount of sample required and some handling needs.

 The order of sampling
To avoid contamination of the oil column during sampling, sampling is recommended to start from the top down in the order: surface, top, upper, middle, lower, outlet, clearance, oil-level bottom and running sample.
 Hygiene equipment
All equipment to be used must be clean. The existence of material left on the sampling equipment would damage the character of examples.
 Displacement examples
The amount of the transfer of examples from one container to another between sampling and testing activities should be minimized, as it will result in the loss of the HC light or contamination, so it will produce incorrect test results.
 Sample storage & handling
Except when it must be moved, samples should be kept sealed to avoid loss of light components. Examples must be maintained during storage to prevent evaporation and degradation by light, heat and other conditions. If the sample is not homogeneous and some will be transferred to another container, then the samples must be done to convince sections stirring transferred representative.

4 Equipment
 Tool sampling
 Sample Bottle (glass or plastic)
 Canned Example
 Cover the container instance
 The glass cylinder or other measuring equipment
 Other equipment clean and dry.
