Clay Structure

Comparison of large granules and granular clay particles will affect plasticity, dry strength, shrinkage, porosity, and the character of the object after being burned.

  • Fine structure (plastic): clay
  • Coarse structure (not plastic): sand
Comparison of clay (clay), soil sediment (silt) and sand (sand) can be seen in the figure below.

Figure 6.17. Comparison between clay, soil sediments, and sand

From the above description, that clay properties memliliki different, there is a low plasticity clay / high, its low power / high, waning low / high, grilled low temperature / high, low porosity / height, color grilled light / dark, in order to meet the requirements to be used it is necessary to improve the properties of such land made prior to the forming process. To keep in mind that the addition of each ingredient will affect the properties of the clay.

As the material is a plastic ball clay or bentonite
As a material hardener / filler is flint, grog / chamotte, sand, talc As buster material / flux is feldspar, lime, magnesia, iron oxide dolomitedan.
