Measuring Variable Resistors

The variable resistor is a resistor that can change the value of the unit Ohm his manner twirling players lever or screw that moves the sliding contact / sweeper (wiper) contained in the resistor. See Figure 11.

The variable resistor has a lever players usually called potentiometer (potentiometer), and which has a screw regulator called preset or trimpot. Ohm unit measuring the value of a variable resistor with a multimeter is as shown in Figure 12. The switch in the position Ω measuring range, measuring limit (range) in the position of x1, x10 or kΩ, as needed.

1. Measuring Light Sensitive Resistor / Light Dependence Resistor (LDR)
Light Sensitive Resistor / Light Dependence Resistor (LDR) is a resistor that serves as input transducer (sensor) where the value of its Ohm unit affected by light falling on the LDR surface.

Ohm unit measuring the value of LDR using the Multimeter is as shown in Figure 13. The switch in the position Ω measuring range, measuring limit (range) in the position of x1, x10 or kΩ, as needed.

As a reference, in the dark, the unit value of LDR = 1MO Ohm (1 Mega Ohm / 1000.000Ω). Bright place Ohm unit value of LDR = 100Ω.

2. Measure Thermistor
Thermistor (Thermally sensitive resistor) is a resistor that is specifically designed to be sensitive to temperature. Thermistor divided into two types. The first, called the Negative Temperature Coefficient Resistor (NTCR), if it gets hot, the unit value of its Ohm reduced, eg at a temperature of 250 OC Ohm its unit value = 47 kilo Ohm (47kΩ). The second, called the Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistor (PTCR), if it gets hot, the unit value of its growing Ohm.
