Mode GUI Operating Systems

There are many operating systems developed today, as well as the classification. If seen by the operating system interaction models can be divided into two kinds, namely operating systems text mode (Command Line Interface; CLI) and GUI (Graphical User Interface). Text interaction mode operating system will be discussed at the next learning activities. This time will be focused on the interaction of matter GUI mode. The study of the interaction model based gui known human computer interaction (human-computer interaction) or interaction design (interaction design).

GUI-Based Systems
GUI is a type of interface that allows the user to interact with an electronic device through pictures (icons) and various other visual indicators. This interaction model is the development of text-based interaction model which had already existed. GUI-based system found on many mobile devices (mobile / portable). Doug Engelbart was the first to develop the GUI in the late 1960s.

GUI project with the name Augmentation of Human Intellect is done at the Augmentation Research Center at SRI International, Menlo Park, California. The resulting application called oN-Line System (NLS). This application uses the mouse as a device interactions and supports Window. Since then began many GUI systems developed, including also be applied to the operating system. GUI operating system is successfully developed at that time including Apple Macintosh, Microsoft Windows and UNIX with X Window.

The X Window System (X11 or X) on UNIX was first published in the mid-1980s. Since that time there were many UNIX derivatives including Linux GUIs are beginning to apply this system.

Linux itself in the X Window system is lowered into a variety of GUI system known as Desktop Environment (DE). Some systems existing desktop environment on UNIX / Linux including the K Desktop Environment (KDE), the GNOME Desktop Environment, Unity Desktop Environment and XFCE Desktop Environment. Almost all DE in UNIX / Linux is an open source application, so it can be developed and used by many people freely. In addition to the Linux there is also a DE that can run on different platforms. KDE is a DE that can be used on Windows operating systems.
