Drilling Mud Types and Storage

The types of drilling mud used, among others:
a. Water-based mud: Drilling mud is the most widely used is a water-base mud (80%). The composition of this sludge consists of fresh water or salt water, clay and chemical additives. This composition is determined by the condition of the wellbore.
b. Oil-based mud: Used in drilling, hotholes, shale formations and so forth. This sludge is more expensive, but reducing the corrosion of a series of drill pipe, etc.
c. Oil or Gas based mud: mud Advantages of this type is primarily drilling can produce a greater rate. Because the used compressor, needs less equipment and space.

a. The house of mud is a material storage shed mud covered. Situated next to the mud pools and beside the mixing hopper, in the area to prepare the mud. Inside the house there are mud sacks ingredients dry sludge that will be used when needed in the drilling fluid treatment program for a formation being drilled. These warehouses are usually put the same height as the top of the sludge tank, to facilitate the course of drilling trucks and order additional chemicals stored in a dry state, making it easier for mixing the sludge material into the mixing system.

b. The tank sludge: Boxes of rectangular steel used to accommodate and regulate drilling fluid after getting out of the wellbore. In general, all the mud pools are alike except, called “shaker pit” or “settling tank” (settling tank). Shaker pit or settling tank or settling tank is located under the iron tank shale shaker with walls – sloping wall 450 so that the powder drill small size that has not been wasted will settle.

c. Mixing hopper: This equipment funnel used to add mud powder material into the drilling fluid at the time of treatment sludge in the sludge tank. Types that are widely used Jet Hopper, who works on the principle of vacuum pressure.

d. Chemical mixing barrel: A barrel containing the chemicals were to be mixed with drilling mud as a treatment. This is done on certain conditions.

e. Bulk mud storage bins: Represents the vessel a funnel-shaped store which was located next to an area where the mud to prepare the mud. These tanks contain additional ingredients are great as bentonite and ballast materials (barite). Vessel place to store the sludge material works on the principle of gravity.

f. The water tank: A vessel containing water that is used as the base material of drilling mud. And also used as meeting water needs during drilling operations in progress.
