Indonesia has the potential to make the tourism sector as the backbone of national development. This is because Indonesia has some uniqueness, among others:
(A) the diversity and beauty of nature
(B) the diversity of tribes and customs
(C) the diversity of folk arts and crafts, and so on. As stated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Indonesia has resources that can be used as a basic asset of the tourism sector, which consists of:
a. total area and strategic location
This country is the largest archipelago in the world and is located at a strategic location on the equator with a number of islands about 17 408 islands, of which about 60% of the entire region composed of water and the rest is land. When compared to the area of Indonesia is almost equal to the area around the vast continent of Europe or North America. Long range from the west end to the east end and reached 5,100 km long from north to south about 1,888 miles. c. population is large and culturally diverse
Indonesia including the most populous country in the world other than China, India and the United States. Indonesia’s population consists of various ethnic and culturally diverse customs, arts and culture, history and different dialects can be a huge capital for the development of tourism.
d. Stability Security
Safety and tolerance is a necessary condition for the growth and development of the tourism industry. Indonesian nation previously known for having a high culture, noble, friendly, polite, civilized, and very tolerant among others, consciously or unconsciously begin to turn into a nation that is easily offended, and emotionally. The emergence of the Bali bombing case and similar cases in several regions in Indonesia directly and immediately our tourism industry has resulted in falling down. Our country began to be branded as a terrorist state and seemed to have lost their identity. Therefore, let us rebuild the image of this country, restore confidence in the world that this country is the country that is civilized, cultured, polite and tolerant to all mankind.
