Chronology of Web Application Development

Based on the perception of some software developers and experts in the field of software engineering (software engineering professional), Web Application Development is not the same with software engineering although both involve programming and software development. Although many adopted the principles of software engineering, Web Application Development has many approaches, methods, tools, techniques and guidelines that meet the requirements of making a web-based system.

Development of a web-based system is different from conventional software development, where the development of a web-based system is more challenge. Web Application Development is a combination of print publishing and software floating, between marketing and calculations and between art and technology.

a. Formulations
Activity that serves to define the purpose and size of web-based applications and set the limits of the system. The objectives can be divided into two categories, namely:
1. Purpose informative
Providing certain information to users, such as text, graphics, audio, and video.
2. The purpose of the functional
The ability to perform a function that takes the user, eg by using the application of a teacher can obtain the final value and the statistical value of data teacher exams, assignments, quizzes which she inputs into the application.

b. Plan
Activities that used to calculate the estimated cost of the project is a web-based application creation, the estimated number of developers, the estimated development time, risk evaluation project development, and defines the development schedule for the next version (if needed).

c. Analysis
Activity to determine the technical requirements and identifying the information to be displayed on web-based applications. The analysis used in web engineering done on the four sides, namely:
1. Analysis of information content
Identify the content to be displayed on this web-based application. The information content can be text, graphics, audio, and video.
2. Analysis of interaction
The analysis shows the relationship between the web by the user.
3. Functional analysis
Analysis on the process of how this web-based application will display information to the user.
4. Analysis of configuration
Configuration used in web-based applications, Internet, intranet, or extranet. Moreover, this analysis also includes a relational database with a web if necessary.

d. Engineering
There are two work performed in parallel, the design of information content and web architecture design. At the time the design phase, there are some things that need to be done:
 Diagramming Wireframe (Photo Frame), the goal of a wireframe diagram is to show how to lay out the web page and show where the functions and content such as navigation, the search box, form elements and so on, without any graphic design. Here’s an example:

 Diagram Site, a site diagram shows the overall structure of the site and how the individual pages relate to one another. Figure 2.2 shows the diagram of a very simple site

 Storyboard and user flow diagrams, Storyboard aims to demonstrate the steps necessary to complete the tasks, possible options, and also introduce some kind of standard pages. Figure 1-3 shows a simple storyboard.
