Suweg (Amorphophallus Camprumilatus Bl.)

1). Physical-morphological properties
Plants and tubers of this type are very rarely encountered around us. Have you seen tuber suweg? Look at the picture below! Can you describe this type of bulb?

In general, the suweg tuber has a characteristic characteristic, rounded, the upper grooved shallow end where the stem of the leaf base. The appearance of tubers is like a bowl. Bulbs suweg including stem tubers, is a change in the shape of the stem that serves as a store of food (carbohydrate). Thus the rods and tubers blend with almost unclear boundaries. The characteristics possessed by these stem tubers, among others, there are the former base of midrib leaves and buds that are useful for plant breeding.

Tuber suweg consists of tuber skin and tuber meat. In the skin there are main shoots, buds, root buds, active roots, and dead roots. The outer skin is a layer of cuticle that serves as a protector of tuber meat. The skin of the suweg tubers while harvested is light yellow and if left for some time in the ground will be yellow brown. In the suweg skin attached to several underground plant organs, ie plant buds, root buds, active roots, and dead roots. The peeled skin peel will remove the slippery sap and contain calcium oxalate. This sap can cause itching in the skin.

2). Chemical properties
The chemical composition of tuber suweg can be seen in Table 2.17. Nutritional content in suweg tubers consists of carbohydrates, protein, fat, calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin C

One of the things that need to be known and considered in the processing of tuber suweg is the itching caused by calcium oxalate contained in the skin of the tuber suweg, although not cause a problem that means.
